What is UVC?
 

UVC is an abbreviation of USB Video Class, and UVC is one of the standards defined by the USB Implementers Forum, which develops various standards of USB.

 

It works with a manufacturer-independent UVC driver that comes standard with Windows and Linux, eliminating the need for a dedicated driver.
Therefore, it can be used immediately after connecting the camera to a computer.
(It is necessary to set up the UVC driver depending on the Linux distribution)

 

 

 


 

3. Good affinity with AI programs
 
Although AI programs are currently written in the Python language, it is troublesome to control industrial cameras with Python, and it seems that many people use Web cameras to program.
However, the image quality degradation due to resolution or camera video compression may not produce the desired result. Therefore, if you try to replace it with a high-performance industrial camera as a solution, you need the expertise and programming to combine the C / C ++ language SDK with Python.

Shodensha’s UVC camera is the same UVC standard as a web cameras while being uncompressed and having the performance of an industrial camera.

 

You can upgrade the camera without change or with minor changes to programs already written in the Python language.
It is also possible to check whether it works with your program by using a demo machine.

 

※Note
It is popular to use web cameras and DirectShow compatible cameras (Windows) in Python via OpenCV-Python. However, we see dissatisfaction that we revise it with each version upgrade and it does not work as expected.
If it is Windows (it is 32 bit only), it seems that the code of UVC camera control can be written concisely directly with A Win32 Python Extension for Accessing Video Devices.
If Linux, it seems that if you use UVCLite, PyGame, SimpleCV, etc, you can write more like Python compare with OpenCV-Python.

 

 

 


 

4. Ideal camera for Raspberry Pi
 
Raspberry Pi is an ultra-compact, lightweight and extremely inexpensive board computer being developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in the United Kingdom.
Although mainly developed for educational purposes, it is now widely used as a hobby or industrial IoT controller.
There are several models and OS (operating system) is Linux based Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux etc. (There is also a model that can make Windows 10 IoT Core OS)

The Raspberry Pi operating system includes a UVC camera driver as standard, so you can use the camera just by connecting it to the USB connector. ※1

Raspberry Pi also has a camera terminal, but you can only connect a dedicated camera. Therefore, there are complaints that satisfactory image quality can not be obtained, the lens can not be changed, and cable extension is difficult.
These can be solved by using our USB camera.

※1 Older OS may need to be upgraded.
   You may need to set up your UVC camera driver.

 

 

 


 

5. Available to exchange lenses
 
Although there is a WEB camera of UVC standard, most WEB cameras can not exchange lens.
Mount of our UVC camera is C mount. So you can select C mount lenses according to the field of view and brightness.

 

 

 


 

6. Grobal Shutter
 
There is also a WEB camera with UVC specification, but most of WEB cameras are rolling shutter type.
